Grab yourself a Kindle!

I was sort of "forced" to go digital because low vision made reading paper books difficult. But now I am a true believer! Not only can I adjust the font size to a comfortable level, but I use text-to-speech to listen to books on my bicycle rides nearly every day. That is 45 minutes or so of "reading" that I would not get in otherwise.

For expats, digital is the only way to go because

1. Kindle books are (usually) less expensive than paper books.
2. Even less than that because there are no shipping charges.
3. Books are delivered instantly over the internet.
4. You can store approximately 5,000 average-sized books
5. Literally MILLIONS of titles available in the Kindle Store.

These days there are various Kindle devices to choose from and they are all very affordable compared to when they first came out 10 years ago.  Have a looksee.

Lonely Planet Thailand

Lonely Planet Thailand (Travel Guide)

When I (Rex) first started living and working in Asia, Japan 1989, there was no internet. There was no e-mail. There was no Skype. All we had were very expensive long-distance telephone calls and little shops where you could go to send a fax, and it wasn't cheap!  All we had at the time was the Lonely Planet and it was a lifesaver! My suitcase was always weighed down with several LP guides to the different countries I wanted to visit or settle in.  Now, LP is more modern with Kindle editions and lots of online resources, and most important can update changing conditions very quickly compared to the days when there was only hard copy. It's a classic and still the best!
